I absolutely LOVE steak pie and when it occurred to me that I hadn’t had one for at least a year, this made me pretty sad! So I invited the family over this weekend and gave it a bash myself! It was a triumph and I’ll definitely be making this again- especially when the slow cooker made cooking so easy! This recipe serves around 6 but can be adapted to suit.
30 minutes prep
4 hours cooking time in slow cooker
1 kg steak
6 spring onions (green parts only)
2 tbsp tomato purée
1 bottle red wine
1 tbsp cornflour
1 pack of Genius puff pastry
Brown off your meat in a frying pan then add the spring onions, chopped carrots, tomato purée and stock cube until everything is well mixed through and starting to cook.
Transfer this all to your slow cooker. Add the wine. Mix cornflour in a small cup with water until a thin paste is formed then add this to the slow cooker.
Leave to cook on low for as long as you have! I cooked this for around 4 hours and the meat was perfect! Season to taste.
Roll out your puff pastry according to the instructions and bake in the oven. Serve with roast potatoes (for all that gravy!!) and a medley of vegetables.
