One of my highlights of the year is always the Allergy & Free From Show. Unfortunately, due to the crazy snow we had last year, the 2018 show in Glasgow was cancelled so I think I speak for pretty much the whole of Scotland when I say we were more than ready for this one! I’ve been to the show in London a couple of times but you can’t beat a show on home turf!
Living in Scotland, I feel like we sometimes miss out in the free from world. There is so much going on in London and there are so many products we don’t really have access to up here. Luckily, the Allergy & Free From Show not only brings some of these brands to us, it also opens up a huge number of options we might not have know about in Scotland!
Warburton Gluten Free, Genius, Juvela and Doves Farm were championing the show this year presenting delicious samples and lots for sale on some very impressive stands! It was also really nice to see so many smaller exhibitors getting a chance to promote their products.
I ended up going both days (I live really close to the SECC so no excuse!) and was amazed at how busy it was! I think the Glasgow show could have given the London one a run for its money this year! So many brands sold out of their products and one even stayed up all night baking more goodies to sell on Sunday (I’m looking at you The Butterscotch Bakery! Visit their website here).
Here’s a quick list of just some of my favourites!
Warburtons Gluten Free– my staple when it comes to gluten free bread/wraps. I particularly love their artisan range and their tiger loaf!
Juvela– a brand I hadn’t really tried but was so impressed by their bread and rolls! It tastes so similar to regular bread!
Freedom Mallows– these guys are incredible, do much fun and their marshmallows are insane! The new chocolate mallow bites are SO good!
Pacari Chocolate– I hadn’t come across this chocolate company before but the packaging drew me in and I’m so glad it did! Organic, fair-trade, vegan chocolate which tastes divine! So creamy and the range of flavours is amazing!
Nairns– an already firm favourite of mine for obvious reasons but they used the show to present their large number of new products! Oat bars, flatbreads, pop oats and snackers- there really is something for everyone!
Jubel– having lived in Germany, I’m a fan of a cheeky beer every now and then but hadn’t really found the flavoured ones I was used to, until I found Jubel! Gluten free and vegan too! These guys make beer with peach and beer with elderflower- so tasty!
Ananda Foods– I had heard amazing things about their gluten free wagon wheels and I used to love wagon wheels so I was desperate to see what the fuss was about and I was not disappointed! Just wish I’d stocked up!
Middleway drinks– I love this company! I don’t react well to sweeteners are the drinks world seems to be going a bit sweetener-daft these days which is why this company is so refreshing! The drinks not only taste delicious but are natural and traditionally brewed in Scotland!
Chastity drinks– I’m a big gin fan but I’m trying to cut down on my alcohol consumption for tummy reasons. Chastity have created a “no sin gin” which is such a great alternative! Ideal for those days where you fancy a G&T but not the accompanying hangover.
Not only were we spoilt for choice when it came to products, there was a fantastic variety of talks, demonstrations and live music at the end of each day and I also had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Jane Devonshire who was there signing her amazing gluten free cookbook!
It was such a shame to see that some of the big companies hadn’t made the effort to make the trip to Glasgow this year. But that didn’t deter from the show being a great success, me having a fab weekend and my cupboards being full of yummy gluten free goodies!
If you missed out on the Glasgow show, don’t worry! There are 2 more in the UK this year!
5-7 July in London
2-3 November in Liverpool
