Okay, if you’re not a sugar lover, look away now! This recipe is not for you! However if you enjoy a cheeky sweet treat, especially at Christmas, keep reading!
These are a traditional sweet you see in German Christmas markets. I managed to get my hands on a bag in Lidl recently and had been hunting for them since with no success so I decided to try and make my own! Takes a bit of muscle and some patience but I promise you, it’s worth it!! Just don’t count the calories…!!
500g whole almonds
2 tbsps. vanilla sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
Mix the sugar, vanilla sugar, cinnamon and water together in a pan and bring to the boil.
Add the almonds, turn the heat down to a medium heat and keep stirring! The sugar will eventually start to dry out again. Continue to heat through until the sugar begins to melt again slightly and the almonds appear shiny.
Lay the almonds out on a baking tray (lined with greaseproof paper) to cool.
Enjoy (in moderation)!
